Cabot’s Pueblo Museum

Cabot’s Pueblo Museum is a really interesting and very cool place to visit. A friend of mine’s mother volunteers there and I went to visit her and the museum last April.

The Pueblo (Hopi inspired) was built by Cabot Yerxa… a very interesting man. I highly suggest googling him and reading about his life. The pueblo has three or four levels, 150 windows, 35 rooms and took about 25 years to build. The pueblo houses a fabulous collection of Native American Pottery as well as many photographs chronicling the Pueblo build as well as Cabot’s life. Also, a collection of early American tools and pottery such as Fiesta can be found in the museum.

The Pueblo is environmentally friendly using many different doors and windows to direct airflow thru the building to cool it down from the scorchingly hot desert heat. Also, Cabot recycled materials for the pueblo from other old and abandoned properties/homes in the area.

If you have a chance, take the time to visit Cabot’s. There is a bookstore, gallery and “Waokiye” a 43 foot monument made from a 750 year old Sequoia tree. Waokiye is a part of the “Trail of the Whispering Giants” carved by Norwegian Peter Wolf Toth.
